Compact Ethernet-based DSLAM for Ericsson's EDA broadband access solution

Overview

This is an Ericsson EDN312xe, a small, cost-efficient 12-port IP DSLAM designed for Ericsson's EDA broadband access solution. It aggregates 12 ADSL lines to two 100 Mbps Ethernet uplinks, supporting both bridge and routed encapsulation modes, and includes ADSL2+ facilities for inexpensive ADSL deployment across sites ranging from large high-density locations to small, remote areas with low subscriber density.

  • Dual Ethernet uplinks: Two 100 Mbps Ethernet uplink ports enable power redundancy, link redundancy (RSTP), or link aggregation (IEEE 802.1ad).
  • Ethernet as transmission technology: Fewer network layers to manage and activate compared to traditional ATM-based DSLAM architectures.
  • ADSL2+ support: Downstream line rates up to 24,480 kbps (ADSL2+ standard), or approximately 29 Mbps with a Broadcom-based CPE modem.
  • Built-in base-band filters: Integrated POTS (cost-effective, ETSI, ANSI) or ISDN filters enable base-band telephony without external splitters.
  • Line bonding capability: Bonds up to six lines to deliver high bandwidth even to end-users beyond 1.6km from the exchange.
  • Built-in surge protection: Integrated Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) and Over Voltage Protection (OVP) for robust field deployment.
  • PPPoE to PPPoA conversion: Converts between Point-to-Point protocols over Ethernet and ATM, supporting flexible network architectures.
