Metrol H4A-12 Tool Setter Sensor for CNC Lathes and Machining Centers

Ultra-precision touch probe for tool presetting, wear, and breakage detection

Overview

This is a Metrol H4A-12, a high-precision tool setter sensor from Metrol's H4A series, used on CNC lathes and machining centers to preset the cutting blade and detect tool wear, chipping, and thermal displacement. By directly touching the tool's leading edge with its contact surface, the sensor delivers consistent, highly accurate positioning down to 1-micron repeatability, helping to maintain constant machining precision. Manufactured in Japan, the H4A series has shipped over 100,000 units to more than 74 countries since its development in 1983.

Key Features

  • High contact life: Rated for 3,000,000 contact cycles for long-term reliability.
  • Precise tool detection: Direct-contact touch sensing enables consistent, highly accurate tool positioning.
  • IP67 protection: High-precision detection maintained even in adverse coolant-splash environments.
  • Overtravel signal: Built-in protection against sensor or spindle damage if the tool is pushed too far into the sensor.
  • High-precision bearings: Enable high-speed tool length measurement without breaking even the finest 0.2mm diameter tools.
  • Proven durability: Passed rigorous coolant immersion and durability testing on actual machining center equipment.
